Mudano Women kick start 2019 activites

What a great start to 2019 … I am delighted to have been asked to take the position of lead for Mudano Women and am excited to begin shaping the future of Mudano Women and what the focus will be for 2019 and beyond. One of my personal objectives is to continue to shape Mudano into an attractive, inclusive place for women to work, and this month got off to a flying start, announcing our sponsorship of Women in Data Science on March 11 in Edinburgh; https://www.datafest.global/, encouraging many young women into the world of data science.

As part of our Mudano Women programme, Aphrodite Tsourgianni, one of our many talented Behavioural Scientists, ran a fantastic session on unconscious bias, raising awareness about the impact that our personal biases have. Soon we’ll be piloting an innovative approach popularised by Jack Welch, CEO of General Electric in the 1990s called ‘reverse mentoring’, which sees our younger Mudano generations giving executives training on a specific topic. Our first very willing mentee who wants to understand the differences faced by men and women in the workplace, will be our CEO Ed Broussard. I would be keen to hear from anyone who has tried reverse mentoring.

I will be building upon this momentum and looking forward to our Women in Data Science event, where we will play host to 100 awesome young ladies. At Mudano, we are passionate about having a positive impact on the next generation of women and inspiring them to be the leaders of tomorrow.

It is important to me that I see individuals grow and develop in their chosen area of specialism – whether that be in data science, product management, project management, management accountancy or as executive assistants. Sue Liu, a data scientist here at Mudano is continuing to broaden her specialism by including investigations into how to use generative models for Anomaly Detection and will be presenting her findings at DataFest19 (https://www.datafest.global/data-tech/).
