As an experienced delivery manager, a lot of what I do feels intuitive, I make decisions every day based on my “gut feel”. Where are the watch outs? What is important right now? What should I do for the future? In reality this is a human calculation of a series of data points, all my past actions and experiences rolled together to make the best choices and deliver the best outcome.
Mudano is using Delivery Science to capture these data points, replacing my intuition with scientific calculations and recommendations based on real projects delivered by people just like me. It isn’t just a set of PowerPoint slides, a task list or a project plan, but a continually evolving set of principles that help me deliver excellence.
We’re not there yet. But we have some of the smartest people I have worked with putting their collective minds together to deliver this. From a next task recommender to automating a daily scrum, each principle is worked on with a variety of views, experience and skills, bringing together data scientists, coders, delivery managers - basically anyone needed to achieve our vision of the autonomous project. In less than a year I have seen the company transform itself.
When I joined it felt like a lot of techies playing around with building a system that they wanted to build rather than what was needed. By listening to the customer facing team as well as hiring the right people, the focus changed. Instead of tweaking around under the bonnet, Version 2.0 is on its way with a clear mission and guiding principles, transforming how we deliver data projects.
However, this doesn’t make my experience and “instinct” a thing of the past. Instead I am proud that this is being captured, converted and embedded, along with the Mudano team, making Delivery Science a reality.
